Meeting Jeremy Hunt, Former Chancellor and Foreign & Commonwealth Secretary2025年08月27日

Three members of Japan’s House of Representatives’ Committee on Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism—Takashi Kii, Hiroyuki Moriyama, and Kiichiko Hatoyama—visited London.

During their stay, a meeting was arranged with the Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt, former Chancellor of the Exchequer, former Foreign & Commonwealth Secretary, and former Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.

Mr. Hunt once taught English in Japan, and his wife is Chinese. Japanese Ambassador to the UK Hiroshi Suzuki was also present.

The meeting was kindly facilitated by my friend Paul Carter, former Special Adviser (SpAd) to the minister and me.

Mr. Hunt has recently published a book titled Can We Be Great Again? Why a Dangerous World Needs Britain?

The main topics of discussion were:

  • Strengthening future Japan–UK cooperation, including in the fields of economy and security.
  • The development of AI and robotics technologies and prospects for future society.
  • The role of politics in a world where populism and division are accelerating.
